UK teenager 'saved by Facebook', a real story

6-6-2009-- A British teenager who took a drugs overdose has been saved after the American girl he was chatting to online raised the alarm.

The 16-year-old boy from Oxfordshire had sent her a message suggesting he intended to commit suicide.

Although she did not know where he lived, calls via the White House and the British Embassy enabled Abingdon police to save the boy's life.

The boy, who has not been named, made a full recovery after hospital treatment.

Still conscious

It is believed that he was using the social networking site late on Wednesday night and sent a private message to a girl in Maryland saying that he was going to harm himself.

She told her mother, who called local police.

The police called a "special agent" at the White House, the British Embassy in Washington and finally the police control room in Abingdon.

Staff narrowed down his location to eight possible addresses, and officers found the teenager at the fourth house they tried. He had taken an overdose, but was still conscious.

Nimbuzz VOIP for Nokia N95 (Symbian Phone, Free International Calls)

I have used using Nimbuzz with my N95 in recently and it worked flalessly with my home's wireless router.Gone were the day we fumbles with microphone wires and USB cord try to make pc to phone calls using free voip provider. I have received Skype calls in New Zealand all the way from USA using Nimbuzz, the call experience was simply fantastic!

Later on I downloaded Nimbuzz, a free and great Symbian software on my N95 and again, it worked very well. My mate from the USA managed to make free VOIP to me when I logged into my Skype account using Nimbuzz.What strikes me the most is that voice call quality is crystal clear even better than the internet phone which I used before. However, I have yet to find out a solution where I can mkae free pc to landline calls.

The IP telephony is a simply wonderful thing as now I can make and receive Skype calls from my Nokia N95 whenver I am at home or at work (using the wireless router).With Nimbuzz, I can make free "PC calls" (yes, Nokia is your multimedia computer!) with using any commercial VOIP service provider. Besides that I can make phone calls free from my mobile (SKype to Skype). In this way, I need not use any expensive wireless IP phone to make SIP calls.Technically, you can make unlimited free calls using Nimbuzz or very cheap international phone calls via free internet VOIP telephony.

You can get free download through your broadband to get Nimbuzz. Now you can do without the GPRS VOIP call which you will charge by your data carrier.

Free VoIP Symbian application now is available for Nokia E71. This is Fring. Nokia E71 smartphone is another new device supported by this great free VoIP application.Some you might be amazed by the quality of the internet VOIP calls (including international calls). Every Noka E71 owner will kill for this (David Lim, Auckland, New Zealand, NZ)

Ever since I started this blog I haven't had much access to a Windows computer. My hard drive crashed and I had to use Linux Ubuntu for almost half a year. All the PC applications that Nokia makes only work on Windows or Mac, no love for Linux. So I really haven't been able to try out some of the cool features like Files On Ovi.

What Is Files On Ovi?

Basically it allows you to access files on your computer directly on your Nokia E71 when your away from home (or work, if your company allows it). You have to install a "connector" on your computer, and as of right now it's only compatible with Windows. According to Nokia,

With Files, you use your mobile phone to view, download and send the photos, documents and files stored on your personal computer, anytime, anywhere. You can also use any other Internet-connected computer to access your computer's files.

Great thing is you can also use this to view your computers files from any other computer with a data connection, not just your E71.

By far, this is the best took that helps me to supercharge my GDI online marketing business and had help to improve my long term income!

Right now you can access your files for free if your computer is on and connected to the internet. But if you want to be able to access your files even if your computer is off or disconnected from the internet, you can sign up for a pay-based subscription and have 10gb's of storage. You can try that and get 60 days free.

The other day I tested this service while at work. I was missing a song I recently added to my computer and wanted to hear it on my E71. Remembering that I left my computer on at home, I was able to view my files. Check out the sceenshots below. You'll notice my new Windows computer is called "The Monstor", going along with my 22 inch monitor that I'm loving right now.

Download Entire Folders At A Time




I downloaded that entire folder and calculated the transfer time at around 22 minutes - not bad at all for 43.9 megabytes. I've decide this should be a "must have" tool on everyone's E71. I've already used it multiple times to pull off excel and word documents from my computer when out and about.

To login you must have a "Nokia Account", which is the same one you use to login to Ovi Calendar & Contacts. This is not the same account as your Share On Ovi account.
