HTC Desire HD Avaialble Now at Online Store ("HTC Repair", Unlock, Auckland, "Abby Technology"

The HTC Desire HD has been featured in numerous pre-release articles but it's only now that you are finally able to go and actually buy it. It's just you won't have to go anywhere as it's available in the online UK stores for several carriers, as well as a SIM-free version, too.

The beefy droid topped performance benchmarks, as it should - it has more RAM than some netbooks (768MB), and it's a champ at booting too. The Desire HD also features the latest Sense UI with HTCSense.com integration.
The site uSwitch has the HTC Desire HD on sale with a handy configurator to choose your plan (carrier, cost, minutes, texts, mobile Internet, etc.), starting from free. They have it SIM-free as well - it will set you back 465 pounds (that works out to 530 euro).

Expansys offer the Desire HD as well - 499 pounds (570 euro) or on a two-year Vodafone plan for free (35 pounds a month). On some other sites like Play.com, the HTC Desire HD is still on preorder but is expected to go on sale next Monday (October 25)

Samsung I9000 Galaxy S gets the official Froyo treatment, October 2010 (cell, phone, tech, news, report, Auckland)

One of the coolest smartphones currently in existence just got even cooler. Samsung is already seeding the Android 2.2 Froyo update to I9000 Galaxy S units in selected markets and worldwide availability should come in the following days.

So head to Kies and hit that Firmware Update button to see if you are among the lucky fellas in the first wave. But even if you are not, don't get discouraged just yet - wider availability should be a matter of days only.

And if that's not good enough for you, you can get the latest update through a registry hack that only takes a few seconds. You can check out the update topic at the XDA-developers forums for more details on how to do this.

We already got the official update running on an I9000 Galaxy S we had lying around in the office and we have no issues with it so far. The update even left the user data and preinstalled apps intact. On the other hand it doesn't bring much performance improvement over those latest leaked ROMs we've been seeing so don't expect miracles just because it is official.

Share with us how the update is working for you (if you got it already) in the comment section below.

Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani preview (tech, news, report "Samsung Repair", Auckland)

Introduction

Well, here's for the next phone courtesy of the joint efforts of Giorgio Armani and Samsung. Third in line, it's meant to be the perfect companion for Armani's suits and more importantly, for the executives that wear them. Let's face it, a high-street fashion label phone is all about the statement and a little less about the functionality. The Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani phones however, delivers on both and it does that with a charm of its own.

Honestly, when we first welcomed the review sample in our office, we were a bit put off by the large size, which seemed to make the golden highlights design even louder aesthetically. However we guess that in the fashion accessories worlds, being loud is the best way to attract the much sought-after attention.

After all, the B7620 is not tacky, it's just plain golden to our taste. And as you probably remember, our fearless editors don't mind dipping their feet in stores full of gold mobiles. So here goes, our quick preview of the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani as we briefly took it out for a spin.

Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani at a glance:
General: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 900/1900/2100 MHz, EDGE class 10, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
Form factor: Slide-and-tilt full QWERTY touch phone
Dimensions: 118.5 x 58.3 x 16.4 mm, weight 164 grams
Display: 3.5" 16M color (65K effective) resistive AMOLED touchscreen of WVGA resolution
OS: Windows Mobile 6.5, TouchWiz 2.0 UI, Work&Leisure mode switch key
Memory: 8GB built-in storage, 192 MB RAM, hot-swappable microSD (up to 16GB)
CPU: 800 MHz processor with dedicated graphics accelerator
Camera: 5 megapixel auto-focus, with dual LED flash and VGA video at 30 fps
Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, standard microUSB port, GPS receiver with A-GPS, TV out
Misc: Accelerometer for screen auto rotate and turn-to-mute, FM radio with RDS, DivX/XviD video support
Battery: 1500mAh Li-Ion battery
You can easily tell - just by looking at the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani model name - that's it's a really close relative to the already available Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO. Well, there are some hardware differences, of course. The new Armani phone can tilt its screen and has 8 gigs worth of internal storage, but it comes with a slightly larger footprint and doesn't have the 3.5mm audio jack of the OmniaPRO. Still, as you can see, they're almost like twin brothers.

But let's have a nice look of the new Armani phone by Samsung on its own, after all, it's the start of today's show.

iPhone 4 Diamond Rose: Price For The Most Expensive Phone In (world, record, Auckland, tech, strange, news, expensive)

I must admit I am one of those individuals who got mesmerized and stupefied at the same time when I saw one of Stuart Hughes first creation – The iPhone 3GS Supreme. At that time, I didn’t realize it was only a part of his other masterpiece which for me looks like it was more than fitted for a royal blooded highness already. (If ever there was such a thing like that).

Today, Stuart Hughes has released another part of his collection and this may very well be the most expensive phone on Earth. So it was an iPhone 4 alright – only this time, the master has strategically put 500 more pieces of diamonds compare to his older 20k dollar worth of iPhone 4 creation bringing it now to a total of 100 carats. It will be delivered to you on a special pink granite box should you be sane enough to order it.  And he calls it, “iPhone 4 Diamond Rose”.

To be more specific: The construction of this amazing masterpiece cost 5 million euros (8 million USD) and the reason why this has became even more special is because the type of stones used for this art were “Pink Diamonds”. With more adorned qualities, like rose gold encrusted on its rear and an Apple logo made out of diamonds in which you can customize when you like another variation.

Currently, there are limited stocks available. It was said that there were two identical creations already made for an Australian client.

Anyway, just for the sake of sour-graping, I do hope anyone who will buy the iPhone 4 Diamond Rose will have a cramp on their hands only to realize that it weights 7 kilos!

World's first 16.41 Megapixel Cellphone Sensor by Sony Share 4 (tech, news, report, preview, Auckland)

Uh, wow, guess the megapixel race isn't over. Sony just announced the world's first 16.41 megapixel CMOS sensor for mobile phones putting today's 12 megapixel units to shame. The 1/2.8-inch back-illuminated Exmor R model IMX081PQ sensor packs an industry smallest 1.12μm unit cell size and is capable of shooting 1080p at 30fps or 720p at 60fps. Sony claims to have solved some of the issues related to those incredibly small pixel sizes by implementing a unique formation of photo diodes to achieve a sensor with high resolution, high sensitivity, and low noise.

"IMX081PQ" is world's first*1 type 1/2.8 back-illuminated CMOS image sensor which realizes 16.41 effective megapixel resolution, and adopts the industry's smallest*1 unit pixel size of 1.12μm. "IMX105PQ" is a type 1/3.2 back-illuminated CMOS image sensor which realizes 8.13 effective megapixel resolutions for higher sensitivity and adopts a unit pixel size of 1.4μm. By embedding these highly sensitive sensors into mobile phones, including those without camera flash, users can capture high quality photos and videos even in low light settings.
Furthermore, Sony will commercialize "IU081F" and "IU105F2" compact auto-focus lens modules which include the two new "Exmor R" back-illuminated CMOS image sensors. These down-sized modules are suitable and efficient for mobile phones with relatively limited space and are equipped with high performance lens which maximize the image sensors' respective performances. "IU081F" is the industry's smallest and thinnest*1 auto-focus lens module (W10.5 X D10.5 X H7.9mm) and is equipped with the 16.41 effective megapixel*2 CMOS image sensor. "IU105F2" adopts the 8.13 effective megapixel*2 CMOS image sensor, and belongs in the industry's smallest and thinnest*3 size class (W8.5 X D8.5 X H5.67mm).
