A public health professor says the lockdown period is critical for people to change their behaviour and not share the Covid-19 virus.
Professor Michael Baker from Otago University and other health professionals urged the government to implement the level 4 lockdown to break the chain of transmission. It began at 11.59pm on Wednesday.

He told Morning Report the move was further allowing the country to build capacity to stamp out the virus, putting it on a "path of elimination", similar to the one taken by China.

"I know I had my best night's sleep on Wednesday. I was imagining all those unseen chains of transmission around New Zealand that we might have missed gradually getting snuffed out because people are no longer sharing the virus around," he said.


"It's so critical in this period that people change their behaviour and not share this virus."

Dressing inappropriately and badmouthing former employers are well-known job interview no-nos. But many of us are still committing these basic mistakes – along with much more bizarre ones. Like hugging the interviewer.

According to a recent CareerBuilder survey of 2,482 hiring managers, the rebounding economy may be to blame.

“The good news is that the number of open jobs continues to improve month over month,” said Rosemary Haefner, a vice president at CareerBuilder. “However, competition will remain high for some time to come.”

And with high competition comes high pressure, which may be causing these costly job interviewing-mistakes. The most outrageous ones reported by hiring managers were…

1. Provided a detailed listing of how previous employer made them mad.
2. Hugged hiring manager at the end of the interview.
3. Ate all the candy from the candy bowl while trying to answer questions.
4. Constantly bad mouthed spouse.
5. Blew her nose and lined up the used tissues on the table in front of her.
6. Brought a copy of their college diploma that had obviously been white-outed and their name added.
7. Wore a hat that said “take this job and shove it.”
8. Talked about how an affair cost him a previous job.
9. Threw his beer can in the outside trashcan before coming into the reception office.
10. Had a friend come in and ask “HOW MUCH LONGER?”

The most common mistakes are a lot less amusing but are equally damning…

1. Answering a cell phone or texting during the interview – reported by 71 percent of hiring managers
2. Dressing inappropriately – 69 percent
3. Appearing disinterested – 69 percent
4. Appearing arrogant – 66 percent
5. Speaking negatively about a current or previous employer – 63 percent
6. Chewing gum – 59 percent
7. Not providing specific answers – 35 percent
8. Not asking good questions – 32 percent


Haefner offers the following tips for successful interviews in a competitive job market:

Keep it upbeat: “Many job seekers may be experiencing tougher than usual job searches in this economy. Even if your job search process has been frustrating, do what you can to remain positive and upbeat.”

Prepare, prepare, prepare: “Before the interview, research the company by looking at the press room for recent announcements, the About Us section for company culture, and the list of products so you are familiar with their offerings. Having this knowledge will allow you to easily answer and ask questions during the interview.”

Keep it professional, not personal: “Don’t let business decorum disappear even if the interview is in a casual setting. Refrain from discussing over-the-top personal issues and focus on the position and selling yourself.”

Practice does make perfect: Nerves are likely to rear their head in an interview, so help calm them ahead of time by practicing. Go through common interview questions with a friend or family member and practice in front of a mirror so you can see your body language.

Honesty is the best policy: “If questions come up that you don’t know how to answer, don’t lie or pretend you know. Admit that you may not know the answer, but then explain how you would go about finding a solution, proving your resourcefulness.”

“The goal of any interview is to stand out from the other candidates and ultimately land the job,” Haefner says,” but make sure you stand out for the right reasons.”

Auckland Apple iPhone iPad Repair, Dr Mobiles Limited, Takapunaa

Apple pulls in billions of dollars every quarter, but if iPhone sales do indeed fall in 2016 then the company needs another product in the wings that might take up the slack. But what will that product be?

Apple is a tech powerhouse, but the company is heavily reliant on the iPhone for the bulk of its revenue and profits. Now that an analyst has pointed the bone at Apple and predicted that sales of the smartphone will fall by as much as 5.7 percent during 2016, then Apple might be on the lookout for a new product to take up the revenue/profits slack.

But what will that product - or products - be?

Let's begin the obvious - existing products. Apple could expand sales of products such as the iPad, Macs, and the Apple Watch to bolster sales. But iPad sales are headed downwards, and Mac sales are pretty flat. That leaves the Apple Watch, which looks set to pull in a few billion dollars and could become the Cupertino giant's second biggest cash magnet.

Apple could also try to head off the decline in iPhone sales, and it seems like it might already be starting to do just that.

But what about new products? Is Apple going to drop a "one more thing" on us this year? And if so, what might it be?

Let's throw out there a few ideas:

Virtual Reality: Oculus Rift and HoloLens are looking promising, and Apple could leverage its huge developer base to do some interesting things, even if it was along the lines of
Google Cardboard.
Gaming: Apple TV feels like it's heading in this direction.
Automotive: No, not a car, but I can see greater in-car integration, and possible Apple dashboards and such.
More wearables: With Google Glass still being a thing, and Apple having ventured into the wearables space with the Apple Watch, more wearables that connect with the iPhone make sense.

Mac tablet: I know Tim Cook sort of ruled this out, but that means nothing. If there's money in it, Apple will be eyeing it.
Home automation: Another growth area, and since Apple controls the hub - the iPhone - then why not the devices themselves?
More accessories: Apple is already pushing out more accessories than ever - including that ugly battery pack - so why not more stuff? Even crazy stuff such as toys or drones?
All these seem to have the potential to pull in billions of dollars. But which option will Apple choose?
