iPhone 4 Diamond Rose: Price For The Most Expensive Phone In (world, record, Auckland, tech, strange, news, expensive)

I must admit I am one of those individuals who got mesmerized and stupefied at the same time when I saw one of Stuart Hughes first creation – The iPhone 3GS Supreme. At that time, I didn’t realize it was only a part of his other masterpiece which for me looks like it was more than fitted for a royal blooded highness already. (If ever there was such a thing like that).

Today, Stuart Hughes has released another part of his collection and this may very well be the most expensive phone on Earth. So it was an iPhone 4 alright – only this time, the master has strategically put 500 more pieces of diamonds compare to his older 20k dollar worth of iPhone 4 creation bringing it now to a total of 100 carats. It will be delivered to you on a special pink granite box should you be sane enough to order it.  And he calls it, “iPhone 4 Diamond Rose”.

To be more specific: The construction of this amazing masterpiece cost 5 million euros (8 million USD) and the reason why this has became even more special is because the type of stones used for this art were “Pink Diamonds”. With more adorned qualities, like rose gold encrusted on its rear and an Apple logo made out of diamonds in which you can customize when you like another variation.

Currently, there are limited stocks available. It was said that there were two identical creations already made for an Australian client.

Anyway, just for the sake of sour-graping, I do hope anyone who will buy the iPhone 4 Diamond Rose will have a cramp on their hands only to realize that it weights 7 kilos!

Soft Laptop encloses the Keyboard and Screen in a single Silicone Shell (tech, news, report, Auckland)

Exploring the importance of the hinge in a laptop, designer Tian Deng has come up with a notebook concept called the “Soft” that featuring latest technology offers a refreshing alternative to conventional portable computing devices.

Embedding the keyboard with the silicone shell that gently encloses the entire setup, the futuristic laptop presents a compact yet elegant design so the user could compute with ease even in cramped public places or on the go. When not in use as a laptop, the keyboard tucks in the silicone shell to become a comfortable handle for effortless transportation, transforming the laptop into a tablet for the user.

Connecting the keyboard and screen with the same shell, the new laptop becomes easy to handle and carry around, wherever you need it.

The Robot Carer

Many researchers in the US are working to give robots the ability to learn about their environment without the aid of the humans that built them.

Already a robotic pet has been developed which can be fed information about the terrain in front of it by a circle of cameras.

It is not pre-programmed for the task - but makes its own decisions instantly about
which route to take.

Once robots can learn they could find a role in many diverse fields.

Japan, for example, hopes to use humanoids as caregivers for an increasingly elderly population.

Alternatively miniature robots might one day crawl through our intestines looking for and fixing medical problems.

One learning robot project at MIT is an ornithopter that has a computer on board. Every time it flies it learns how to fly better. One day this may be the perfect surveillance or search tool.

The Ornithopter

The computer driven ornithopter learns from expereince

MIT PhD student John Roberts said: "There is a lot of computational power which is important because some of the learning algorithms can be relatively intensive.

"We have a number of sensors here that are able to measure the rate it's spinning, the accelerations it is experiencing."

Better batteries, smaller chips and more computing power are helping the project get closer to its ultimate goal which is for the robot bird to mimic the endurance, manoeuvrability and speed of a living creature.

These are the challenges that generations of students and professors at MIT have tackled.

Thousands of hours of painstaking research, hundreds of tiny scientific steps forward slowly creeping in the right direction until eventually, for a lucky few the eureka moment arrives.

Apple reveal updated iPhone 3GS, (Tech, news, report, repair, unlock, Auckland) David Lim

In San Francisco on Monday, Apple unveiled what it calls the "fastest, most powerful iPhone yet" - t
he 3GS. So how does it compare to previous versions?

Some critics say the new incarnation isn't anything that wasn't expected.
They argue that for many iPhone users, the new model may simply do things they expected the original one to be capable of.
It has more speed, more storage, better battery life and a better camera that can record video.
The new model will also be able to send picture messages, allow copy and pasting of text and a full search capability.

Apple is promising the new model will be up to two times faster than the iPhone 3G, and users will be able to take higher resolution photos and capture video using the new 3 megapixel camera.

Video function

But once Apple's marketing boss Phil Schiller had got round to announcing the new iPhone's built-in compass, the audience in California had realised this was not a day that would change the mobile phone market very much.

For many users, the decision whether to buy an iPhone 3GS will come down to its price, regardless of how many new features it has.

Apple has not yet given details of how much the handset will cost in the UK.
In the US it is priced at $199 (£125) for the 16GB model, $299 (£187) for 32GB.
Other tweaks which set the iPhone 3GS apart from previous models include up to 32GB of storage, but that's only the same as the biggest iPod Touch.

Apple said it has sold more than 40m iPhones and iPod Touch devices, but the company is facing competition.
Palm will soon be releasing the new Pre phone in the UK, launched on the 02 network.
Whilst it has not generated as much hype as the iPhone, it has proved popular in the US and is seen as a big rival to Apple's product.

The new iPhone 3GS will be available in the UK from 19 June, 2009.

Robots and cars for the future

The world-famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology - MIT - is a breeding ground for boffins - the next generation of gadget creators.

Ten thousand students, five schools and one college including the famed Media Lab make up MIT - which has an annual research budget of well over $500m (£302m).

Extremely Dangerous Weapon: Knife that freezes organs

Britain on alert for deadly new knife with exploding tip that freezes victims' organs Senior police officers have been warned to look out for a new knife which can inject a ball of compressed gas into its victim that instantly freezes internal organs. The 'wasp knife', which can deliver a ball of compressed gas capable of killing its victim at the press of a button, may be heading for Britain, the Metropolitan Police fear.

A needle in the tip of the blade shoots out the frozen ball of gas which instantly balloons to the size of a basketball, freezing organs.

The Metropolitan Police have told colleagues in the West Midlands to be on the lookout for the blade, which is designed to kill sharks and bears.

Police are concerned that the £200 weapon could fall into the wrong hands.

The American-made weapon is sold to hunters and divers and injects the frozen gas when the small handle-mounted trigger is pressed.

The manufacturer describes it as perfect for downed pilots, soldiers and security guards and boasts that it will "drop many of the world's largest land predators".

It can snap-freeze all tissue and organs in the area surrounding the blast.

A source close to West Midlands Police said: "The Met is obviously concerned about this and that is why they have circulated the information.

"This knife will almost certainly kill and the Met must have intelligence that they are in circulation.

"I think it is only a matter of time before one of these is used because the internet makes it much easier to find and buy weapons like this."

Labour MP for Perry Barr in Birmingham, Khalid Mahmood, said: "Weapons like this are absolutely disgraceful and there is no reason at all why people should be walking around the streets with them.

"There should be high-profile operations and high-profile arrests against anybody caught with them. The way to tackle the wider issue of knife crime is with effective community policing, which the West Midlands force does very well.

"The Met could pick up on the lessons from West Midlands Police in its excellent community work in places like Handsworth, Aston and Lozells."

The Wasp injection website states: "The effects of the compressed gas not only cause overinflation during ascent when used underwater, but also freezes all tissues and organs surrounding the point of injection on land or at sea."
