All you need to know about Zello

Source:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zello

Zello is a tech software company in Austin, Texas, US, known for the Zello app, which emulates push-to-talk (PTT) walkie-talkies over cell phone networks.

History
Alexey Gavrilov developed the product originally called Loudtalks which was announced at the TechCrunch 40 Mobile and Communications Conference on September 17, 2007.[2] Zello acquired the Loudtalks technology, rebranded, and moved the development team to Austin. It added apps on June 20, 2012.[3] Bill Moore is the CEO and Gavrilov is CPO. Moore founded and was CEO of TuneIn where Gavrilov and his team created popular TuneIn applications.

Zello made the news in June 2013 when Turkish protesters used it to circumvent government censors.[4] As a result Zello was the top most downloaded application in Turkey during the first week of June 2013.[5]

In February 2014, it was blocked by CANTV in Venezuela. Zello released workarounds and patches to overcome the blocks to support approximately 600,000 Venezuelans who have downloaded the application to communicate with each other amidst protests.[6] It "has been one of the most downloaded applications in Ukraine and Venezuela."[7]

In July 2017, in Latvia, Zello was the main application which was used by thousands of volunteers and rescuers for communication purposes while looking for Ivan Berladin who went missing.

In August 2017 during relief efforts following Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Zello became a popular method for communications between volunteer rescuers (particularly members of the Cajun Navy) and people stranded by the widespread flooding.[8][9] The app received over 6 million signups in one week as Florida residents responded to hurricane warnings for Hurricane Irma.[10]

In September 2018, while Hurricane Florence caused unprecedented flooding in the US states of North and South Carolina, rescuers used Zello to request information about the locations of people needing help and on street conditions.[11]

On August 27, 2021, the U.S. House of Representatives select committee investigating the 2021 United States Capitol attack demanded records from Zello (alongside 14 other social media companies) going back to the spring of 2020.[12]

Members of the 2022 Freedom Convoy have almost exclusively used Zello to communicate with other members and supporters.[13][14][15]

Products
Zello is an instant communication app to exchange short audio messages. It simulates traditional two-way radios using a walkie-talkie style of communication. The app allows talking one-on-one to a single person or in a channel with a group of people, and offers additional features such as history, replay last message, notifications, and Bluetooth device support.[16]

Zello users can create channels and give control to other Zello users to become moderators. New York Times' technology columnist David Pogue describes Zello's channels, "Like most of the best applications, Zello lets you create groups so that you can carry on something like a party-line phone call among a handful—or hundreds—of friends or collaborators."[17]

Once a channel is created channels can appear on the "Trending" list and creators can assign additional moderators to keep their created channels safe. Though available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone, and Blackberry, Zello can also be accessed from a Windows PC computer with the Zello for Windows PC.[17] For other smartphone operating systems (e.g., Sailfish OS) there are Zello-compatible apps provided by third parties.[18]

Zello Work is the paid service of Zello app that allows corporates and users looking for real-time communication over groups and channels. Zello Work is different from Zello but is however owned by the same company.[19]

What Is Zello and How Do You Use It?
https://www.tomsguide.com/us/zello-app-guide,news-25805.html

The Zello walkie-talkie app has soared in popularity during hurricane season. Here’s what it is, what it’s not and how to get started.

When it comes to natural disasters, you never know if traditional forms of communication will fail. Of course, you’ll want to make sure that you and your loved ones are safe, but depending on your cell phone plan, constant texting and calling can get expensive. There are a number of hurricane-tracking apps out there, but Zello has become the app of choice for emergency rescuers.

Zello is a free walkie-talkie app for smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers. The app requires an Internet connection to work properly, whether it’s through Wi-Fi or a mobile data network. Unlike the standard calls you can make on the device of your choice, Zello connects you to fellow users and radio channels where large groups can talk regardless of distance.

Unfortunately, if you lose internet in an emergency, Zello won’t be of much use. If you need a truly off-the-grid app, goTenna may be a better alternative, since it enables text and GPS while offline. goTenna requires external attachments to work, but on the upside, it's lightweight and weatherproof.

2022 Tech Review: The Apple Watch 7 Series. #davidlim

The Apple Watch 7 is basically the Watch 6 with a slightly larger screen and the ability to charge faster – most people will likely choose the Watch 7 because of the new attractive colors it comes in, rather than any new features. While it still packs a wide variety of impressive features, and is a superb second screen for an iPhone user (as well as being genuinely useful to anyone who needs the ECG or blood oxygen monitor regularly) the Watch 7 doesn’t offer the battery life, fitness or design overhaul that it needs to inspire an upgrade.

The Apple Watch 7  replaces the Watch 6 as the premium model in Apple's wearable range, joining the Watch SE and Watch 3 for those wanting a second screen to complement their iPhone.

It's not that much of an upgrade over the previous model – the main difference we'd like to point out in our Apple Watch 7 review is the screen, which is 20% larger. It still packs the impressive feature set that makes it worthy of your consideration, and it's definitely the best Apple Watch yet, and the best smartwatch... but only marginally.

While most will be buying this Watch so that they don’t have to take their phone out of their pocket as often, or because they want a decent fitness companion, you're also getting good heart rate monitoring and a range of useful apps, all wrapped in an attractive package.

What's new?
Finishes: Aluminium (five colours), Stainless steel (three colours), Titanium (two colours)
Special models: Nike+, Hermès, (Product)Red
IP6X dust-proof, 5ATM waterproof (to 50m)
Case sizes: 41mm and 45mm

In terms of design the Series 7's approach is much like the Series 6: the casing design is the same (albeit larger), the digital crown is the same, even the bands are the same (which is good, as it means older ones will still fit).

There are both Wi-Fi and Cellular options, available in new 41mm and 45mm case sizes, along with special edition Nike and Hermès variants. There's a lot of choice, with three material options - aluminium, stainless steel, titanium - available in a variety of colours if you want something extra eye-catching.

The aluminum cases get some new colours too: there's Midnight, which is black; Starlight, which is silver with a hint of gold; Green, which is more akin to the Midnight Green colourway from the iPhone 11; and the (Product)Red model is more of a bright cherry hue. There are various new bands to match these new colours too.

Upping the stakes on the durability front, the Apple Watch Series 7 is IP6X dust-resistant, to go alongside its 5ATM waterproof rating. That should make it considerably more "beach ready", as dust, sand, and even water (to 50 metres) are no concern for this wearable.

Is the Apple Watch Series 7 worth buying?
Verdict: Is the Apple Watch Series 7 worth buying? The short answer is yes. The Apple Watch Series 7 would provide iPhone users an unrivaled experience, especially considering the seamless integration between watchOS and iOS. Of course, you will need to be an iPhone user to take advantage of these features.

What can a Apple Watch Series 7 do?
New Design and Optimized User Interface. ...
Most Durable Apple Watch Ever. ...
Faster Charging. ...
watchOS 8. ...
Cycling, Workout, and Fall Detection Updates. ...
Apple Watch Lineup. ...
Apple Fitness+ ...
Apple Watch and the Environment.

Does Apple Watch 7 come with a charger?
Your Apple Watch comes with the Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable (Apple Watch Series 7 only) or the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable (earlier models). You can also use a MagSafe Duo Charger or Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock (sold separately)

How far can you be away from your phone with Apple Watch 7?

Can you answer calls on Apple Watch without phone?
Look at your watch and you'll see who's calling, along with an answer or decline button. Tap the green answer button to answer the call, tap the red button to decline it. Apple Watch has a built-in speaker and microphone, so you'll be able to chat without taking your iPhone out of your bag or pocket.

How long does Apple Watch 7 battery last?
Up to 18 hours

Apple Watch Series 7 (GPS + Cellular) usage includes a total of 4 hours of LTE connection and 14 hours of connection to iPhone via Bluetooth over the course of 18 hours.

Seven (7) Powerful Tips for using your WhatApp on your iPhone and Android Phone. Dr Mobiles Limited, Repair, Unlock, Auckland, Takapuna, North Shore

Being the biggest instant messaging app with over a billion users, WhatsApp has everything to wow its users. There are many features in WhatsApp that can make your experience better, although not all of them are straightforward with the access. That is why we are going to list some handy WhatsApp features that were always there, but you may not know about them. These features should help you get more productive or at least make you a smarter WhatsApp user.

1. Take Back Your Privacy

By default, WhatsApp gives up loads of information about you to even the unknown users. This can be a privacy breach for privacy-conscious people and also bad for people who don’t like being tracked (may be for business reasons). For example, WhatsApp will let unknown people know your status, profile picture, when you are online and even when you read a message (I personally hate the last two).
To manage privacy, tap on the main menu located on the top right corner (three vertical dots) and select “Settings” from it. After that, go to “Account” and then “Privacy.”
Here you will see all the options to manage your privacy. You can set the privacy level to “Everyone,” “My Contacts” and “Nobody.” The privacy options include:
Last seen: Your last seen time of when you came online on WhatsApp mentioned under your name.

Profile photo: Hide your profile picture from others.
Status: Hide you  status from other people.
Read Receipt: Hide the confirmation that you have read the message (two blue ticks).
Note: If you disable the “Last seen” and “Read Receipt” options, you will not be able to see the read confirmation and “Last seen” status for others as well (it’s a double-edged sword.)

2. Send Private Messages to Multiple People

If you want to send a message to multiple people (like an invitation), you don’t need to individually send it to each recipient. You can create a broadcast list to send the messages to all of the contacts in the list and also see their replies. Just tap on the main menu on the top-right corner and select “New broadcast” from it. Now add people to the list and tap on “Create.” You can send messages to these people and get their replies in the same place.
For the recipients, the message will still be a private message, and they will not know that it was a broadcast message or that it was sent to other people (unlike group chats). However, it should be noted that only people who have your number in their contacts will be able to receive the broadcasted messages.

3. Create Chat Shortcuts

If you often chat with a particular person, then you can create a chat shortcut on your home screen to quickly access the chat instead of opending the WhatsApp app. In the “Chats” section tap and hold on the chat that you want to add to the home screen. When the options show up, tap on “Add chat shortcut,” and it will be added to the free space on your home screen.
You can also do this for groups and contacts to quickly access them.

4. See Exactly When Your Message Was Read

WhatsApp shows you the exact time your message was delivered right under the message sent. However, you can also see when the message was actually read by the receipt (if “Read Receipt” was enabled). Just tap and hold on the message you sent, and then select the “Message info” button (a circle with an “i” in it) from the above buttons. You will see exactly when it was delivered and when the recipient read it.

5. Use a Different Skin Tone for Emojis

Some of the emojis that are based on hand gestures or face gestures (not smiles) can also be tweaked to send with a different skin tone (from light to dark), perfect for giving a personal feel to it. Just tap on the triangle icon on the bottom right corner of the emoji (if available), and you will see all the available skin tones.

6. Star Important Messages

If you want to refer to a message at a later time – like someone’s home address – then you can star it to view later at any time without any need to search through the chat history. Tap and hold on the message and tap on the “Star” button from the above buttons to star them. You can see these messages by going to the main menu on the top-right corner of the interface and tapping on “Starred messages.”

7. Use WhatsApp Text Formatting

WhatsApp has recently added a feature to change text formatting, such as using bold, italics or strike-through text. This isn’t with buttons (unlike in the other text editors); instead you will have to use the correct syntax before and after the text to change its formatting. Below are the four types of syntax you can use:
Bold *Add text here*
Italics _Add text here_
Strike through ~Add text here~
Bold & Italics *_Add text here_*
For example, if you want to bold “maketecheasier,” you have to type *maketecheasier.*
This feature is still rolling out and not everyone can enjoy it as of yet. You should experiment with this in a safe area (like your status) before using it in conversations.

Conclusion

Above are some handy tips that you can use to have a better WhatsApp experience. Some of these tips will make you more productive, and others will simple make you a smarter WhatsApp user. Which one of these tips did you not know about? Are there any good WhatsApp tips you know? Let us know in the comments.
